Couple of questions . ....
The other equipment will be a Yamaha Motif and a MPC 2000xl which are definite purchases.

Music made will be Southern Hip Hop (Downsouth) and R & B , I need something that can produce bass to shake the house and a variety of sounds that are very tweakable.....

1.Which synth/module offers the most versatility for the dollar?

2.Should I just order the EMU soundfont disc sets from the EMU website which include many of the same sounds of the modules plus a wave converter to convert the format and pick up a MS2000 or A Station

3.Is it an advantage to get an analog synth so I can create my own sounds

4.Should I save and buy a MS2000R and a Novation A station along with the EMU sample discs

5. Or what do you think (I want to stick to hardware for the moment)

Thanks in advance !!!!!

Allright, can answer a couple questions pretty easy:
"Is it an advantage to get an analog synth so I can create my own sounds"
Hells ya, best way to get those roof shakin bass sounds too. I own the AStation and man for the ~$550 it costs you get crazy phat sounds and the absolute best part is tonnnnns of knobs so you can tweak your sounds how you want 'em. If you don't need a huge range of keys (and got an extra 150) you can get the KStation which is the same but with 25 keys and a much more easily programmable interface. Anyways so yeah save up, buy better, buy once.

yea... a station.. whoo hooo... but be carefull, you might suddently turn out to become a trance producer when you start messing with that modulation matrix.. crazy phattass sounds..

Chriss where you been, real quick what's the word on Yamaha's RS7000, does it have the Motif sound module in it?? What you think of it?

So, I just started looking for my first synth (besides an old DX21 I got for my birthday waaay back when). I played with an MS2000, an A-Station and a Virus Indigo.

Well, of course the Indigo wins hands down, but it's probably out of my price range.

Then I see everyone on the board raving about the A/K-Station. But, with only about 15 minutes of experimentation each (all my wife would allow), I thought the MS2000 sounded MUCH better than the A-Station - thicker, smoother and far more analog.

Am I missing something?

At this point I'm thinking of just using the synth for bass lines, lead, and maybe some pads.... not really for sequencing..... then you never know? Will I regret buying the Korg?

barefoot

PS - damn I'd love to have that Indigo.

I was able to test the A Station and K Station and the A Station didn't have a midi controller so I listen to some of the presets from pressing a button that sucked ass, and I was only able to mess with the K Station for about 5 mins so that was not enough to make a judgement, guess I have an excuse to go to Guitar Center again this weekend !!!! I'll post results after this weekend....

as far as i'm concerned 80% of the presets suck ass... you simply have to dig in yourself... but then.. i guess it depends on what you wanna use the unit for... dig deep...
