hey all.......i thought i'd just drop my two cents on this new machine i got. I think its pretty decent for some home recording. What sold me is the fact that it allows for 8 simultaneous input recording which is something I really needed, though its only a 8 track machine. That doesnt bother me though, because i only use 5-6 total inputs and because it has USB 2.0 connection to pc which allows very fast and easy transfer of individual tracks to my pc DAW software for editing and mixing. Its very portable too which makes recording live anywhere an easy task, then get home connect the USB and work on the files in your PC. Oh, by the way, its a stand alone regular analog mixer as well in case you dont wanna record. The bit of a downside is that the mic preamps arent the greatest, but that can be expected for the price and the 8 preamps that this machine has. The sound quality though is very acceptable. With some good bargaining, i was able to knock almost 200 bucks off the price at the local GC!! :D

I was actually just looking at those on a few websites. Pretty interesting ... I want to hear more about it. You need to keep me informed! I am really attracted to the portability. Honestly I wish I could haul my desktop everywhere I wanted to record but well, I cant. Have you used and outboard pre and went into the korg? GIMMEE DETAILS! :D

I don't own one but a buddy of mine got one not too long ago. Pros: Stand alone mixer/portable as hell/8 virtuals/usb. Cons:Monitoring can be tricky when recording with all 8 tracks.

Is that because it becomes too much to keep track of? Or are the meters , I guess laggy. I always imagine digital meters being a little slow and innacurate with showing peaks.

I also read that the gain for the mic preamps on the d888 go in jumps. Like it doesn't add gradual gain or at least thats what I understood. I would really like to get more details, this product interests me for its portability. I would like to use other preamps into it for better pre's but I think it would be a great way to record.

HEY Erockrazor....... if you are gonna be using your own pre's, i think this unit is perfect for you! The jump you are talking about is when you turn the gain all the way up. Seems like you can only do about 80% of the gain because then the next increment up on the gain always clips. I too have a yamaha mixer that will provide me with better pre's when we record our new stuff, but i have messed with recording with just the on board pre's and it aint too bad. Especially if you gonna dump the files into your pc software for editing. I havent had a problem with monitoring. Just read the manual first because then you will be stuck, as i was at first. I love the portability of it and being able to record 8 simultaneous inputs. And transferring files to pc is very easy and fast! No complaints here yet, and for the 699 retail price, its very worth it! (and like i mentioned, bargain with your local guitar center and you can get it alot cheaper!! I told them i was gonna go buy it at sam ash....LOL! :D )

I have this machine on my list of stuff to buy.I was gonna use it for live backup at gigs.I won't use it for recording tho--just live gig backups with extra guitars, synth and percussion...40 gigs is nice too. Thanks for the info Rock...

I have purchased the D888---I am only using it for backups too.I will be using my Makie 1402 as mixer tho---I think this beats the minidisc--no compression and no disc swapping---what sold me was the mixer/recorder plus effects and a 40 gig hard drive--I think this will be perfect for backup at live small gigs...Should be arriving next week some time...
