JUST BOUGHT A KORG D1600 MULTI-TRACKER. I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT MIDI OTHER THAN WHERE TO PLUG IN. MY DRUM MACHINE IS AN ALESIS SR-16.

WHAT I WANT TO DO IS THIS:
HIT "RECORD" ON THE KORG AND HAVE IT SEND A MIDI MESSAGE TO THE ALESIS TO MAKE IT START PLAYING THE SONG/PATTERN I HAVE SELECTED. ASSUMING THE ALESIS IS ALREADY SITTING THERE TURNED ON, WITH THE CORRECT PATTERN ON THE SCREEN, READY TO GO.

ALSO, SINCE THE TEMPO OF MY "NEW SONG" CAN BE SET ON THE KORG, I WOULD LIKE THE KORG AND THE ALESIS TO "SYNC" WITH EACH OTHER TEMPO-WISE.

IN OTHER WORDS, LETS SAY I HAVE A COMPLETE SONG RECORDED, AND NOW I WANT TO RECORD THE SAME DRUM PATTERN AGAIN, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT "DRUM SET" RIGHT ON TOP OF THE RECORDED PART.

DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?
HOPEFULLY I CAN ACCOMPLISH THIS WITHOUT A SEPARATE SEQUENCER.

THANKS TO ANYONE WHO HELPS.

FIGURED IT OUT!

SUCCESS!

Thanks anyway to anyone/everyone.

My problem was due to the facts that;

1) the Alesis SR-16's midi receive channel was not set to "OMNI" like it should have been, (or "01" would have worked I guess since it appears that the Korg D1600 was, by default, set to transmit on "01").

2) I had to hit the Korg's "System" button, then the "SYNC" tab, and then make sure that the radio button for "ClockMstr" was checked. This apparently allowed the D1600 to actually send out the clock signal.

I double checked using the built-in click track of the D1600 and it automatically synchronized witht the SR-16's temp every time!!

bye
