Hello everyone, my vocal range has hit a new low. Im a 28 year old amateur enthusiast and have never had any coaching.

I was able to reach high c and sometimes c# without falsetto (first Cs on the top E string of a guitar) and could reach down to the low e-string of guitar.

Now, i've strained my vocal chords singing my heart out, and now for the past few weeks have noticed that i can hardly hold the high a - it starts to wobble - and anything above that is now unreachable. At the same time, i can now reach below the bottom e string of the guitar - down to around d.

Now, i not only want to have my original tenner range restored, i need it. I promised I would cover a certain song which uses that range for an xmas present.

The instrumentation has been recorded, and i do not want to pitch shift the song, or change the lead vocal in anyway.

Can you tell me the best excersises to restore my range - or even extend it further?

Could you also include when these exercises should be done and how many times a day is best?

Thank you so much if you can help me :)

I'd let your voice heal. But if your going to sing anyway and your not going to transpose the instruments. Then the only thing I could see you doing is to practice singing an octave lower.

I agree with this.
I would actually not sing for awhile as this adds strain to your voice.
The chances are if you rest your voice it will eventually come back.
The voice is an Instrument and it needs to be treated as such.

Really? Is there nothing else I can do?

I know it may sound to you guys like I'm being a little silly, but the reason I am so adamant about singing the same key etc, is the song is for my father who isn't very well, and it means a lot to him to know I can do it - as it's his favourite song.

If there is nothing else I can do I'll just sing it an octave lower as suggested, then when my voice is back to normal re-record the lead.

Thanks anyway :)

I think that's a good solution.
Your voice will probably recover it just takes time.
Good luck.
