Im recording a rock/punk band, and i always wanted to know, do u add reverb to the guitar at all? Ok, im feeling like this is the dumbest question in the world... but on like the riffs and just like powerchord strumming, do you add reverb to that?

thanks alot!

If it needs it.

There aren't any rules regarding reverb, though I wouldn't say punk is normally swimming in it.

But if it sounds better with some verb, then feel free.

I'd probably tend to not add the reverb until the end. Yeah, for punk, you probably don't want the guitar too muddy. Go distortion and add other effects later.

Record without it if possible because you can't take it off once it's committed to tape/hard drive. Add the reverb during mix down and feel free to experiment. You never know what you might find.

i got into the whole effects thing when i started. i thought more is always better. (plus a huge pedal board always looks impressive). but i grew out of it as far as reverb and chorus i feel its best to start at zero, turn the knob until u hear the effect and then take it back down just a little bit. if you keep it discreet and don't drown your sound in the effect you get a more natural richer tone. but thats my opinion

You probably want to make sure you have at least some reverb. Esp. on the vocals. I recorded an album with no reverb, and it sounds terrible. Don't make that mistake.
