I think I just made a pretty killer trade . . . . my newly acquired used Delta Blues for a used Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Just thought I'd share. :D

I guess the other party wanted tremolo... I've owned both, the Fender has more tonal options. From a street-price standpoint, you came out on top, but I suspect the DB may be a more reliable amp.

If you prefer the Fender, you did good. Congrats.

I kinda feel the same way and that's why I'm stoked. I didn't dislike the DB, but it was very "NICHE." I needed something that can do different sounds. Plus if I ever need to sell or trade again, I think I scored some equity there. Since we both got what we wanted neither lost. I was just excited and thought I'd share.

BTW . . . why do you think the DB would be more reliable?

doesn't peavey have a better build quality on the delta blues

Not sure about the build quality of the Deluxe VS DB...but I think you made out good.
I use to have a DB 115 and I could not get past the fizzy/fuzzy preamp distortion. I just could not dial in any tones with balls.
I'm sure you will not have that problem with the Deluxe.

Anyway...enjoy!

I have heard/read few if any reports of the DB's or Classic amps from Peavey having reliability issues, but have read at least few about Fender's Hot Rod Series. My own experience includes owning a DB210 and a Classic 30, neither of which gave me the slightest trouble for the few years I owned them, and a Hot Rod Deluxe that came to me inoperative. So, not conclusive, I admit, and I tried to consider that in my comment, above.

If I was traveling cross-country on my own dime (say, as a touring singer/songwriter) and could only bring one amp, it would be a Classic 30 with a tremolo pedal, rather than a Hot Rod Deluxe- I have more confidence in the Peavey to not break down- I'd gladly trade some a little tone for better reliability, in that situation. (I am substituting the C30 for the DB because it's a bit smaller.) But unless Peavey was paying me, I'd probably take the "Peavey" label off the front (and use an older one that lacks that silly-looking oval on it's front. God, what a stupid design change.)

I've owned quite a parade of amps, these last few years, and I try to limit my comments to stuff I have either owned or at least played enough to "feel" like I've owned it. Of course, in the end it's still all just my opinion.

because those hot rod amps have some issues when hauled around much.
I've had a couple (still have a deVille 4x10) and both of them required me taking them apart and fixing fractured solder joints once or twice a year. They used stiff computer ribbon cables to connect the power section and the preamp and when they'd vibrate from traveling the joints would fracture. An easy fix except you had to drop the pre to get to the joints.
If you're not gonna haul it around it shouldn't give you any problems.
Don't forget ..... I gigged nightly so mine got banged around more than most will.

Now you all have me scared. Its gonna move about once a week. The channel switching switch seems a bit jittery already, but I just chalked that up to it being older (it's not the new III version, but the old.) I really like the sound though.

I just recently purchased the new Hot Rod III and I love it. The clean channel is great for pedals. Time will tell for the reliability factor. I move it around about once or twice a week. Also, i needed a louder amp and it sure is.

Sorry to alarm you, I think once a week is not too much. If it drops out, PM Lt. Bob and ask him for a how-to and some pics, and you should be able to repair it easily. After the first time, it will be a cake walk. And I'll bet Bob's get moved more than once or twice a week, him being a gigging musician.

Most of my equipment i always move myself. I don't even let my 2 boys (12 & 15) move my stuff. And wherever i take my stuff i keep an eye on it. When we do play out, it's always the early gig, for about 2 hours or so. I get to avoid most of the drunks that way. It sucks when beer gets spilled on your stuff. I baby my stuff basically, and i haven't had much trouble with break downs.

mine gigged more like 5-7 times a week.
Don't get panicky ........ some people don't seem to have that issue. So time will tell.
And the Deluxe is smaller than the deville so that means the ribbon cables will be shorter so they might not be as prone to fracturing the joints since there isn't as much weight hanging there.

They ARE really good sounding amps and if you do need to fix it, it's something you can do yourself although I bet it takes you a good part of a day the first time.

But I have seen folks who say they never had that problem so ...... regardless .... enjoy the amp ..... they have a wonderful clean and, personally, I like the dirty channel. A lot of people say they don't but I think they might be looking for high gain. It's more of a bluesy distortion ..... pretty sweet to my ears.
