Killer Radio Shack Mics?

In another thread I read that the *highly respected* Harvey Gerst recommends a radio shack mic for toms...

Which one???

The model number was included in the post, something like 30-3230; but when I cross-referenced that model number in the Radio Shack page nothing came up. I then went into my local radio shack and saw nothing of the sort. Apparantly, the mic model numbers all begin with a "33."

I did see a small goosenecked mic that ran for about $39 - is that the one???

Do you know if they have been discontinued??? Is there a new model?

I called Radio Shack and that model number doesn't even come up on their computers...
 
As of 2 weeks ago RS still carried them in my area (the midwest).

I own a few of these and they are decent mics for the cost (I think I got them for $30). They work well on 10" - 14" toms not as well on bigger toms, not well at all on kick and are so-so on snare.
 
Well, my tom sizes are 10, 12, and 14; so based on your comment - they should work for me :)

Assuming I can find them, I'd spend about $100 for three; do you think this is worth it? I currently use some very cheap samson R11's, but they are just too bulky. I typically don't need to much volume on these since they are picked up well by the overheads, but the sound is too "airy" - I'd like something more 'in your face'; the type of sound achieved through individual micing. I have sm57's i could use (borrow), but these are really hard to place because my toms are small. Eventually I'm gonna buy the Audix D2's and D3s - but thats not in my budget for the next three or four months.

Suggestions?

I bought 4 for about $90 here in Texas.
I use 2 on my snare (1 top /1 bottom for sizzle) one each on my
smaller toms. Once you get to about 14" toms you may want to substitute a sm57. I have 5 sm57s but actually prefer the R/S mics on the smaller toms. The only down side is the clamps put the mic a little too far into my striking range on my 8" tom so I mounted it on my 10" and pointed it over.
I am in the process of recording album# 3 for our band and have used the mics with very good results. I usually come up with most of my drum sound with kick / snare / 2 overheads but use the close mics to fill in some beef when the song calls for it.
They handle very high sound levels, I have yet to overdrive one.
