Hat STYLE. Not contents.
Hey guys! One of my co-workers runs a real (as in professional) recording studio out of our office, so we got together a few times over the last few months to record a song.

It's about protecting the environment. And also cyborgs.

Divine Right to Deforestation (Kill a Panda Bear)
(click the title of the song at the top of the tab to download the mp3)

Special thanks to Tanacea for producing this bad boy and providing additional instrumentation.

Too funny. :) Lead vox seem either a little upfront or a little dry... Perhaps a little of both. I'd perhaps lobby for a bit more snare too... Great style, though, and really tight playing, the drumming is especially noteworthy for being tucked in and tight.

I'm firmly convinced that God does indeed hate Panda Bears.:D

This has a kinda Presidents of the United States of America vibe to it...which is very cool. I'm with Phil, I'd like to hear a bit more snare....I think the kick could come up just a smidge as well. I like the vox as they sit...nice and dry and the doubling is well executed. Great tune...funny as hell.:D

Thanks!
I've been getting a lot of PotUSA comparisons. I hadn't really thought about that, but I suppose there are some similarities in our styles. Cool.

That's not true at all. In fact, pandas sit at the top of the hierarchy of all mammals, and they control the destiny of all living beings. Through the cycle of reincarnation, lesser forms of life can aspire to claw their way up to panda.

Pandas themselves are ambivalent about threatened extinction; as pandas, they are guaranteed to achieve nirvana after death and they don't particularly care if any lesser beings make it there with them. This also explains why pandas don't get too fussed about mating. The primary goals of the panda involve eating bamboo and blueberry muffins, and throwing keg parties where they all wear lampshades on their heads.

Once pandas are extinct, it will be impossible for all lower beings to ascend.

Don't forget the penchant for martial arts.

Nicely tracked and produced. The song content itself seemed too forward and benign in the way of a joke song, with the nice musical compliments aside. All in all seems like a fun time spent.

"The song content itself seemed too forward and benign in the way of a joke song" Translation please!!!
Hey VHS,
Well done - some one else tweaking knobs for you has allowed you to bring out the melody some more.
Funny, & satirical as well as preachy - well done!
THe drums could be louder but the voices sound great.
This could be perfect mid 80's power pop!
I'm impressed & amused.
I nearly didn't listen because I thought the worst re your thread title!

Ha ha! Thank you.

Yeah, the title of the song was a point of much debate between Tanacea and myself. He insisted that "Kill a Panda Bear" was a much stronger title than "Divine Right to Deforestation." So we compromised with a subtitle. :D

I liked it. It was funny, although it seemed a little too message driven to me. I would have preferred a straight "fuck you" to the fucking panda bears, but I'm a consciousless douchebag, so take that with a grain of salt. The mix is okay. Like others have mentioned, definitely needs louder drums. It's an improvement over some of your other mixes though. You're trending in the right direction. Good job overall. :)

Interestingly, it did start off as a much more straightforward "Pandas are dumb. Let's laugh when they all die!" (The first verse.) But by the time I got around to writing the rest of it, it just seemed better to go the conservation direction.
(Though I still kind of think Pandas are jerks. Seriously, what kind of lazy omnivore eats nothing but bamboo and is still picky about it!)

I think this is the first time I've ever been featured on a beer pong mix. Rock!

I'd say the drums need to come up more if no one mentioned it

Im not really worried about the novelty value of this as I think it stands up as a great tune anyway...the humour part doesn't really bother me one way or the other..I really like it

It also sounds way better mixed than other stuff Ive heard of yours which just doesnt translate through my cheap system at times..

I think you've done a great job here...liked the bubbling synth coming in, good instrumentation..great vocals and lyrics

really enjoyed it Steve, you need to do more collaborations with this guy!

Really dug this, I like your lyrics and vibe....bass guitar sounds really good on my system phat and filling the lows nice....drum level up a bit would definetly kick this up....nice full sound overall, congrats aon a great song man, really liked it!
