ive been messin around with a kick drum sound and have failed. im looking for a little electronic click almost but with a bick wetness and fatness. when ive heard d112s used lived thats exactky how i want it.

i have a bass drum with a small pillow inside just touching both heads, the batter is an emad.

ive used the d112 inside straight at the beater, off axis, right outside the hole, and a few inches back.

also, any ideas how i should eq it, ive been messing with that too, but i cant get it quite right, any general advice to zone in would be great, even if its just to try! than ks guys

well...

well, here are some eq tips, low thump end sound- around 62hz, reducing some mids makes it less boxy or boomy -500 hz ish... 2000hz is where some of your attack is, and then the higher up you go, the more your kick starts to sound like lars ulrich's kick drums(metallica sound). Also putting compression on it will help. So good luck..

yeai finally got it so it was the tone i wanted pretty much- i just had the boom, so ill mess around with those frequencies, thanks for your help

The AKG D112 is a GREAT kick mic, but very finnicky about placement. It will sound extremely different depending on where you place it. I personally prefer it placed outside the resonator head at approx. 2:00 pointing down a bit about 4" in from the rim. Some people want the strong attack and bring it right insider the drum close to the beater. You can try every step in between.

My advice is to record it as flat as possible and play with the eq on the mixing end, not on the recording end.
