I have an AKGD112 inside the drum (w front head on)about 5" from the front head pointed directly at the beater. I like this set up the best so far. I don't use two mics for kick ... but here's a link to a particularly good thread that was in Recording Techniques a while back. Ed uses an AKGD112 and a EV RE27 n/d in this example. And, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. :)

Tips? When I mic my kick,is in close or out infront of the head hole better. I use a beta 52 but just bought an older sennheiser 421.

I also have the AKG D112. As far as I understand, the closer to the batter head the more attack you'll get, whereas the farther from it - the more "boom". I would just experiment with a few positions, cuz they all could be good depending on the drum and the sound you're goin' for. :)

experement with the 421,that's what i use and have gotten some great results...les
