Does anyone have suggestions on how to EQ/Mix/Record a kick drum with a deep low end, and a nice slap to it? I have posted some songs at http://www.mp3.com/glikk that I have recorded... but one thing that I wish I could do better is the kick drum sound. I would really appreciate it if someone could check out the tracks on the website and then give me some feedback on the drums, and some suggestions on how to get a better sound. Another thing that I would like some info. on is how to EQ the vocals for a good rock sound. Thanks.

I listened to All Your Friends. The kick is a little weak. A few things you could try would be to get a dynamic like a D-112, Beta 52, RE-20 (the usual suspects) inside the kick positioned to get the "click" off the beater. Then put up a large diaphram condensor out in front of the kick about 3' away (I've been using a D-112 inside and a GT AM-52 out in front in figure 8). Personally I like the leakage but if you feel you need the isolation you can make a tunnel or tent over the front end of the kick out over the mic with mic stands and moving blankets. Then some compression.
Also at mix time, once I have a decent drum mix going I'll also assign the kick, snare and tom tracks to a pair of sub outs as well as the main stereo buss out and send the sub pair to a compressor a step on it hard and then return that to a pair of faders. Then I push that up under the drum mix. It can add a lot of thud.
