Can you buy a skin for the front of the kick drum by itself? And do they have a specific name because I can't find 'em on www.thomann.de. Yeah, you guessed it, wanna do a decal on one for a band.

I think they are always muddled up with the batter heads. look for resonant drum heads, they normally have a mic hole too.

:)

Ah I see now, thanks guys! Have you had any experience in painting a decal onto a head? I know it's kinda 80's.

Here's my kick:

My wife had this made for me. It's basically a stock reso head with the artwork done on a thin sticker that was applied to the head. The head is a little thicker and doesn't resonate as much, but that makes it sound punchier and lower pitched. Win-win. :)

Sweet dude! Man. That thing rocks. I was thinking stencil + spraypaint, acrylics and some kind of sealant. No idea what'll happen.

Actually have anyone tried this with a DIY approach? I'm worried any kind of paint will stretch if the resonant head (I'm learning!) is tightened. Greg you don't happen to know where your old lady ahd that done?

Some guy in New York called www.drumart.com or something like that. he's a smalltime guy but does great work. I'm happy with the head. I think it was about 80 bucks. A little pricey, but I couldn't do it. :o

I would think that you could paint a head and install it no problem. The resonant head shouldn't be that tight, or tight enough to rip the paint off. Or, if you're brave, mask off the hoop and lugs and paint it with the head installed.

I painted my head. What i did was put the head on tune it up and break it in. Then i took it off I masked off the design and spray painted it. So far no problems

Look for a local sign maker.

Work out the logo you want, and then go have them do it with vinyl sticker material.

It will look more professional in the long run.

Or you can contact "Rocken Wraps" (owned by the drummer of Queensryche) they do kick heads for people.

Instead of a front skin, look up a mohel and see what price you can get on a fore-skin.
