How can I achieve this?An example would be, Ruben Studdards-Sorry 2004, the kick is on every beat, and the snare hits on the 2 and 4, but when it does, its at the same volume level as the 1 and 3 when the kick is solo  .The snare hits alone by itself at 1:34 ;) .

Turn down the level. All that volume you get on commercial CDs is done in mastering. You are trying to get the level at the wrong stage in the process. Your mix is too loud.

Exactly!!! You can also slap a limiter across the kick and snare tracks to tame extreme transients. But start by lowering your overall mix level first.

I would try either running the kick and snare through the same compressor/limiter or use a sidechain compressor for the kick.
If running both through the same comp set the threshold so that comp only kicks in when both hit. This will lower the volume of each.

Or use a sidechain comp and use the snare to trigger the comp on the kick this will lower the volume of the kick only when the snare hits and leave it untouched when the snare isn't going. This is probably your best bet.
