I am in the process of taking piano lessons and was wanting to know how much knowledge of the piano/keyboard would I need in order to make beats?

none just use acid pro, and get some samples, put them together, and say your a producer now 
ok ok, really though, you don't need that much, just creativity, and some working knowledge of you know, setting the keyboard up, using it within say like sonar or cubase etc.. having knowledge in actual playing the piano though, makes it a billion times better, cause now your an actual musician. Plus your beats won't sound so dry, like many i've heard.
