I just set finished (or so I thought) setting up my recording stuff, and have my keyboard (Yamaha YDP 213) connected to my computer via Midi-USB then routed to my USB Presonus Audiobox. I was trying to record into my DAW (Studio One) and the midi data was relayed correctly, meaning I could see all the keys being pressed, but there is no playback, upon further research I found that I need some kind of voice or virtual instrument to turn the midi data into sound. Any recommendations for virtual instruments software? Any help is appreciated. Am I correct in what I need to do next?

You have virtual instruments built into Studio 1. Start with the Presence VST.
First, midi is just data. It triggers the internal sounds of a virtual instrument. Sounds like you have that working. Just load up a VST onto a track and away you go. You also don't need to route to the Presonus. Just midi/usb to your computer. Now if you want to record the internal sounds of the YDP213, the only thing you can do is use one of the headphone jacks to an in on the Presonus. Just watch the levels, the headphone out may be quite hot.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with Studio One but there are a ton of VST synths out there (Many free! vstplanet.com always came recomended to me, but I've found stuff all over the internets). And like Washburn100 says, MIDI is just data, meaning it can play back anything. Pitch/mod wheels, all that can be assigned. You can even assign a key on the keyboard to trigger a loop or change a patch, depending on what you're using. I'm only familiar with FL Studio, but I'm sure most other DAWs have similar stuff.

I really like using samples of real instruments rather than synth sounds, depending on what you're doing. There's tons of info online about the subject, I suggest doing some reading. It's really not complicated once you get into it. I'm fairly new to MIDI myself but I've had a blast with it over the past couple of months.
