Keyboard suggestions?

I am in the market for a good keyboard for my small home studio. I use to own a Korg o1w years ago and although it always worked well i am assuming there are better units out today. I am no keyboardist by any means, I use to just record parts into a sequencer at slow bpm's then just speed them up to make myself sound like Paganini. I would like the ability to load in different sounds and have midi control. I own an akai MPC2000 that can be utilized.
So if you could, suggest to me a decent board or perhaps all i need is a keyboard controller?

what type of sounds are you looking for? piano, organ, synth, all of the above? do you need weighted keys, pitch wheels, built-in effects, aftertouch?

Yeah, I am thinking all of the above. Weighted keys and aftertouch are nice features. Not so much in need of a pitch wheel or effects.
The ability to load in new sounds through either the akai or into the keyboard itself would be nice as there are a ton of good sample cd's on the market now.
 
The MPC 2000 has first class pattern-style sequencer along with it's sampling
features --- that means you could go for one of the keyboards with no onboard sequencing features.

The Yamaha S03 the Alesis Ion and the Roland JunoD are all very good sounding boards with lots of great sounds in each. Maybe a trip to your local keyboard store is in order -- they've come a long way as far a bang for your buck goes in 15 years.

The ION is a VA (doesn't make realistic emulations of acoustic instruments).

Neither the S03 or Juno-D have a keyboard that is pressure sensitive (aftertouch).
 
I have a Motif ES8 and boy the keys are smooth. That might be a little more then what you need but worth checking out.

brzilian, have you EVER had a positive or helpful or even neutral thing to say here? Subtle and not-so-subtle put downs are your stock in trade. You must be such a miserable shlub and hate yourself and the world and music so much that you have to try to drag everybody else down with you.

Aftertouch and realistic emulations of acoustic instruments were not part of the original post --- he/she just wanted recommendations on a new keyboard to replace his 01w.
 
Yeah, I really dont even know what aftertouch is :-)
Thank you all for your suggestions, the Yamaha looks like a really nice keyboard!
I think perhaps i may look a little more closely at that unit.

Ok...

Just giving my opinion as someone who has been involved with synths for the past 17 years and owned many of these synths.

If you don't like my opinions, I really could care less. Next time, though, act like an adult when you dissagree with me and don't resort to the immature and derogatory comments. It only makes YOU look bad. :rolleyes:
