I've heard you don't have to use a keyboard's midi output to record into a preamp, which goes into the comp. I've heard I can just use it's output/headphones quarter inch jack. Is this true?

yes.....you can use the keyboards 1/4" jack to record directly to the computer.................there is no way to connect the midi out to a pre-amp, just don't work like that! Midi does not transmit sound, only the key played, velocity, aftertouch, pressure, sustain if used.....also midi stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface....just in case you were curious :D

Sorry, it's a midi interface too. I just said preamp because it has a preamp in it also and I wasnn't thinking.
