Hi, I am new to Cubase and have a large problem to begin with!! Basically, I want to connect my keyboard to the PC to input MIDI information to Cubase. I have connected the In and Out from the keyboard to a single 15 pin port on the soundcard. What else to I need to do? My PC doesn't even recognise that the keyboard is there. Do I need to go to the Control Panel and do something? Please help

Instead of seeing your keyboard, Cubase should see your sound card's MIDI input and output. Go to your Cubase directory (or in the Start menu) and run the program called "Setup MME". You should see a list of MIDI input and output ports that Cubase has recognized. Make sure your sound card's MIDI is listed there and make sure it's not inactive.

If you can see it in this list, then you should also see it listed under the output column in the Cubase arrange window and you're fine.

If you can't see it, also look for it in the Windows Device Manager. If you can't find your MIDI inputs and outputs there, then make sure you have the sound card's driver software installed correctly.

Problem with MIDI

Thanks for the advice Jim. I am English but in Germany and therefore have a german version of Cubase! Although I can speak German, I didn't read my instruction manual and so I have now done this and at last my keyboard and computer are making beautiful music together!!!!!!!

Thanks again!
