Using Mic Pre for Keyboards and Bass

Question #1 I've been tracking my Triton direct for the longest time.
Do keyboard tracks sound better running through a top end Mic Pre ( Vintech, Neve, Great River, ect. )?

Question #2 Can a quality Mic Pre take the place of a direct box for bass ( The Brick, Sansamp Bassdriver, POD Bass pro )?

I honestly don't think you need a "High end" Mic pre for this. I have A Triton also and I put a Elcheapo Bellari MP-105 Tube Pre just to give it a warmer fatter sound. You don't actually have to boost the line level you just need to add a little character to it. Thats why they stuck a tube in the Triton extremes... They knew the keyboard sounds like shit.

I don't know since all my bass sounds come via MIDI from Sounds Modules. A Guess? Maybe.... but why would you look to supplement a direct box when they can be had so cheaply. The right tool for the job IMO.

Your saying "yes" to using a mic pre with keyboards but not necassarily a "high end" mic pre. But if I am going to own a high end mic pre, why not? Right?
