I was thinking of getting a controller and was wondering what you guys think of these. I plan on using it just for beats with fl and reason.

I dont want to go to expensive since its not something I realy need. I think the Oxygen or 02 will suit my needs best. But the cheapo is tempting.

M-Audio Keystation 49e $69

Evolution eKeys USB MIDI $37

M-Audio O2 $79

M-Audio Oxygen8 v2 25 $79

For what is worth, I have the O2. It is extremely compact (translation - its great to travel with).

With that compact footprint, you sacrifice keybed action (its only half the travel of a normal, non-weighted keyboard). You also loose the pitchbend/modulation wheels and have to use the membrane rocker switches instead.

It all comes down to what you need. If you can live with the O2 shortcomings compared to the Oxygen, go for it.

I wouldn't conside the other two since they don't have assignable knobs which come in real handy.

So your satisfied with the o2?
Sound quality is good?

The Oxygen is better?

Half the reason I want the 02 over the Oxygen is for the drum pads.

What can I program with the midi knobs? Is it just for Vst's?

I could assign a key as a snare if I wanted, Right?

?

Its midi.. a "1" sounds like a "1"

with midi controllers its all about what features you need. If you dont need the "feel" of a piano, or prog knobs, then just go el cheapo.

MIDI controllers make no sound whatsoever.

There are no drum pads on the 02 either...

Only the M-Audio Axiom series have drum trigger pads.

I have an M-AUDIO Keystation 49e that I use with reason. I love it. I did have the 88 keystation but it felt so cheap. So I sold it! And yes you can assign keys to different things. Depending on the software you use. I use reason 3.0 and pro tools, and it works great.
