hey guys i`m new to this but i was thinking to get this keyboard controller Edirol PCRM80 61-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller
(http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/a--58674/item--EDIPCRM80) and then motif es and connect it to computer.. now .. HOW DO I CONNECT All of it together? First i connect midi from motif to keyboard and then USB to computer? will that work? cause on the computer i got right now i got no midi... I`m getting new computer soon and i already have MAudio Audiophile 2496 waiting for the new computer..so i`ll be able to connect midi ther if i need to.. basically for right now i want to record live into computer from my motif es which will be controlled by my EDIROL keys controller.... what do you guy think?

I was thinking about getting motif es keys but i think i rather save money on RACK and get myself studio monitors for that difference.. you know?

Weird, man, I was just looking at pretty much the same setup last night! Motif ES Rack and Midiman 61-key controller with weighted keys.

TO record directly as audio data then you need to connect: Keyboard out-->Motif rack Midi (USB midi is best) and then Motif out-->computer. Mixer is opti0onal between motif and computer. Usb into computer is only necessary if you have a program on your computer to record the MIDI data, like a sequencer, OR if you want to use a software synthesizer (ex. Absynth) on your computer.

Now, a question for you. . . what other sound modules/keyboards did you look at before deciding on the Motif? Right now Motif is ahead of Fantom-Xa and Tritol-LE, simply because MOST of the Motif's sounds are usable, whereas the others have many banks, just most of them are no good for what I need.

Sorry, I re-read your post, and you didn;t buy it yet. . . oops. Anyway, the Motif is sweet. It's great for strings and orchestral patches, which is what I need most. Right now I'm debating whether to go with a keyboard controller and the Motif, OR a cheap keyboard controller and a bunch of softsynths--i could get a lot of software for $1100 USD.

hey guys its funny cause i was in the same dillema..but today i decided.. i went to guitar center for the last time to check out all fantom motif es and triton extreme... With me it was an issue what to choose cause i make all type of music...hip hop/some electronic/and some simple piano string music.. I was looking at fantom love the electronic sound but strings and overall accustic sound wasn`t what i was looking for...then i looked at triton extreme... sounded hot but the problem is that too many producers used it and now it seems like im the one copying someones style if you know what i mean.. then i looked at motif...hard to understand its buttons but SOUND QUALITY?? wow...when i heard strings i was like....thats just amazing... thats what i`m buying.. i didn`t buy it yet..cause i still need to get my keyboard controller first.... I think motif has the best sound out of all of them..and i think thats what is the most important thing.... I`m not going to sequence stuff in it so i don`t need an easy sequencer like fantom...I will be recording everything into computer and then chopping it up into loops and stuff... Fantom does have some great expansion boards but i don`t feel like spending more money just to get something that will sound as good as motif which comes with those sound right away... now i never had stuff like that so i`m not sure how will i connect it to computer... i didn`t understand your explanation on connecting it.... so i can connect motif to my computer with USB? or MIDI? as i was saying i don`t have my new computer yet so no midi for me untill i get it...might me a month or so... If i connect it over USB will i be able to record stuff in soundforge or not? i need to record what i`m playing....

one more thing.. i was also thinking about soft synths.... but they take so much RAM and HARD DRIVE space that i rather buy myself motif and not overload my computer... if you know what i mean.. what type of music are you going to be making?? I want to be scorring one day...but motif will not cut it... i`ll need to get some east cost orchestra for that. but thats in future..... for now MOTIF IS what i want ..untill i feel like i got no more use out of it i`ll be fine.. i am thinking though to get one more hardware synth that will be great for DEEP SUB BASS i don`t know which one tho.....Cause Motif doesn`t have that much SUB BASS patches.....

The Motif rack has midi, USB, and digital i/o, so a dedicated midi port on your computer is not necessary. As far as how to hook it all up?
1. Hook your keyboard, Edirol PCRm80, to your computer via its USB port.
2. You can get to your Motif rack a couple of different ways. Either plug the Motif in to your computer via its USB port, I believe the Audiofile has digital I/O, so you could hook it in to the Audiofile via it's digital port, or lastly use a standard midi cable and connect the Motif to your keyboard.

If you're looking for a used MotifRack, I have an extra one I'm selling,

So would the hook up stated above work for sequencing through FL Studio or Sonar? I was looking at the same setup, only with a MicroKontrol and my midi hooked up with a Tascam US-428.

Yes. In fact, I use Sonar my self.
