keyboard changing pitch?

have any of you guys ever dealt with a keyboard wavering between notes? i have a cheapie 4-octave "MIDI Composer" that i've just been using to practice, but i'm finding that when i play, every few minutes the entire keyboard will shift by half a step. not in a vibrato kind of way -- the whole thing just plays a half step higher/lower. And later it goes back to where it was. Not surprisingly, this is incredibly irritating. I'm using an SBLive with Cakewalk Express 8.0. A crappy setup, but i don't have a piano, and i just want to hear myself practice.

any ideas? or is it just my garage sale gear
