Hi,

I'm looking to break into home recording, and am looking to purchase a keyboard (well actually, receive one, as a gift).

I've been given a $300 limit.

I don't have a clue how to shop for one.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
jeffrey

Yamaha and Casio make some keyboards in that price range, I would check them out.

I like my Yamaha PSR-GX76 and it was $299. It's got 76 keys, velocity sensitive MIDI out, a pitch wheel, a sustain pedal and a reasonable standalone sound. I don't use the onboard sequencer or the other toys included but it has a fun display that shows the music notation for whatever you're playing in real time. When I was shopping for it, the Casio I looked at in the same price range (forget which one) did have a cool feature that instantly named chords that you played on the keys. But I didn't like the feel or the sound and it had just 49 keys.
