Keyboard recording techniques

Hi all, i'm a newbie to homerecording.

My equipment is formed by:

1) Oberheim ob 12 Synth (Beutifull!)
2) Korg N 5 Synth
3) Roland BR 8 (Multitrack Recorder)
4) Behringer 8 channel mixer
5) Roland Drum Machine

I have just a little question....

I connect keyboards directly in the mixer for recording (stero recording), but the sound recorded seems a toy( expecially for the korg)! the sound is poor of harmonics and presence. How i can Magnify the sound? What kind of equipment i need?

I want to buy the behringer tube compressor T1952 and a graphic equalizer (also behringer) for sound enhacement, what do you think about?

Thanks in advance a sorry for my bad english! Thank you!

The words Berhinger and 'sound enhancement' usually aren't used in the same sentence but you are on the right track.

Your best bet for getting higher quality sound is going to be a good preamp. A compressor can definately help beef things up.

On the low end an Maudio DMP3 and an FMR RNC would probably do the trick. On the high end there are a lot more choices.

Yo Hitchcock's VERTIGO:]

Try running your keyboards directly into your BR8 and using its preamp or, as Tex said, an outboard pre amp. I just finished running some tracks from my Yamaha DX7 through a Grace Design 101 directly into my 2816.

May be, just an observation, that you are not pushing the right buttons on your mixer. You should not lose much sound one way or the other.

Use your keyboard volume as well as your pre amp and see what comes through.

Good idea but...

I take in consideration the idea of buy a good preamplifier, but...

The preamp output going in the ugly pre's of my boss br-8 and i think is not the right choice, or not?
