Thank you (SPAM) for posting a BS meter (SPAM) from a website (SPAM) that is all in Korean!!

That's very helpful (SPAM) for all of us, since we have no idea (SPAM) what this contraption is (SPAM), nor do we care!!

Hmmm so you pretty much suck.

Back to the HM-1s. I've never tried them but a little while ago I was trying to get a couple overheads that would be a good match for my 603s, what I mainly wanted was flat response or at least not high hyped, with out going out and blowing 800 on the cheapest earthworks I could get. Someone suggested the HM-1s saying they were very well known to have quite a few fans. Since then I've been waiting for Kel to get their new shipment in during this month to grab myself a pair.

Seems to be a quiet flood of good word and response on this mic... I've been offered a C-1 for $100.00, but I dunno. I have two 'hyped' mics now- the MXL V63M and a Studio Projects B-3. Maybe I should branch off- also my space has mostly stone walls.

Stone begs for the HM-1 from the way I hear it. I think you need these more than me.

I have a matched pair of HM-1s.
I really like them for my drums. I use them when recording loud bombastic styles, because it tames the sizzle of the cymbals while bringing out the roundness of the toms.

I also use a pair of Oktava MC012s for when I do soft brushwork and need some extra sizzle.

The HM-1s are great on Violin and Mandolin as well. I have also used it on soprano sax to tame the nasal quality of that instrument.

I have one and have used it for solo nylon and steel string guitar. An excellent mic - a standout in the low price range IMO. It's got good detail without having to rely on that high freq rise that makes so many mic's sound hard-edged in the highs on solo gtr. I used it through an EH tube pre, the pre's on a US122, and a Great River MP2.

No fooling... getting a pretty good roundup of positive end-user reviews, here. Beginning to see a pattern...

I have 2 of them, I use them as drum o/h.
Also like them on guitar cabs.

Well that's it, then. I'm getting one. Two if I can swing it. Just gotta sell something... anyone need a drill press?

I was thinking about them the other day and It hit me that these would probably sound great on some cabs. When I get my pair I'll try it and most likely second that.

Has anyone tried them on a bass guitar cab? I'm looking for a good mic for this purpose also. I sampled a Sennheiser MD435 (looks like an 'Elvis Special') close on the grille of my Ampeg 2x15, and blended the signal with a D.I.- sounded pretty good. But I'm 'always tinkin'.

And I sold a cab- HM-1'll be on the way. I'll post a word on it, and maybe an mp3'd be fun.

sounds like the KEL is quite similar to the Studio Projects B1. I had almost an identical "result" using the B1 as an overhead that Tmix had with the KEL.

I'd wager they're prolly variations on a common theme.

the best thing about the KELs, IMO, is that the company's plenty happy to let you try them out with no strings attached. so, if you want to see how they sound in your studio, order a pair and put them through their paces. no one's experience with them will be a better litmus than your own.

cheers,
wade

Could be very similar, and the jist I get is that the HM-1 isn't any groundbreaking science. You're probably in the ballpark there.

I do like the smaller diaphragm size, though- it is said by the old-guard gurus of the sound trade that a smaller diaphragm will give up a more accurate image. I'm going to have a first shot at finding out for myself.

A larger bass cab will give you more bottom than a smaller cab, no matter what the maker of the smaller cab says in their advertising. Volume of air moving can't really be gotten around- some things just come down to simple physics.

So on this premise, I'm pretty interested in getting the results. And yeah, if I hate it, I'm sending it back!

I finally went and heard the soundclips. Kind of interesting- and arresting- hearing the lack of 'air' up in the high end. They're not 'dark', but that bright thing is out. I bet they're great for drums in my stone-walled room... allright, just thought I'd comment on the clips. :)
