Keeping track of VSTs

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but it seems to come closest.

Back in the 80s I started a project that used a lot of hardware synths and samplers. I dropped it (for about 25 years) and just picked it up again. I spent a few months on eBay recreating my old rack (I need that 80s synth sound) and started writing again. I'm using Sonar 8.5 for composition and orchestration, and Audition 3.0 for mixing and recording vocals.

I got intrigued by Sonar's ability to use VSTs, so I spent today hunting down free VST plug-ins that gave me the sounds I needed. In no time at all, I was able to reproduce every sound I needed from my hardware with VSTs. The only problem is that I have 57 of them installed and many come with a gazillion presets.

How does everyone keep track of these sounds? I can't tell you how many times I tried to find a sound and forgot what VST/preset it was.

This is too much choice! I almost prefer working with my old hardware -- yes, it's limited but, at least, I can find the sounds that I need.

Any suggestions?
