I'd suggest spraying the floor boards and ceiling perimeter of the room. Cover all of your equipment with dropcloths and move it into the center of the room. Repeat this process again two weeks later. (When the eggs hatch) then spray every few months or so.

I would not suggest spraying any thing on or near your recording equipment....especially tape.

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

I live in the country where multi-legged creatures are always a problem. I use a product called "Bug-Stop" that you can get at home improvement stores. I spray about once every 3 months, just like Dom says, and have no problems any more.

I just converted my basement into a project
studio. After many weeks putting up new walls,
acoustic dampening material, carpeted floors,
a sound room and a control/monitor room. It was a lot of hard work! My problem, baby spiders, small bugs etc! I have seen them crawling on my equipment. My question, is it advisable to spray a small amount of RAID
on my equipment? I don't want them making a home in my computers, mixers, amps and other equipment. Thanking you all in advance.

Musicians with icky bugs in their studio, apparently!
That sucks, dude ... that would totally piss me off. Good luck with eradicating those little bastards!

I was laying on my couch and looking at the ceiling. I noticed some stains and wondered how they had gotten there. Then I noticed the stains moving across the ceiling. Hmmm, interesting. Moving stains. I took a closer look and there were zillions of tiny spiders all going to the east. Must have been Buddhists.

HEY C7! I'm all for the lil'buggers right to life. But they must DIE if they come anywheres near my equipment! :)

MISTERQCUE...were the bugs really there, or are you like some musicians and put a little chemistry in your coffee. :D
I solved an ant problem by accident once. They invaded my bag of sugar so I threw it out into the back yard. All the ants moved out with the bag and lived happily ever after as Buddhists.

Monty, at first I saw 1 on my computer, then
on my racks, then a coupla more on my various
othert boxes. I drew the line when I saw 1
crawling on my Fender Precision Bass which i have owned for 21 years. E-nuff was e-nuff!
I dont even allow my daughter to come into
my studio, so there was no way i was gonna share my space with any damn bugs. I declared
war on them last nite and and they were dropping out of the floor boards and ceiling
like pennies from Heaven. I built this thing to make money; not to open any damn ant/spider farm! :)

Absolutely, Misterqcue !!
I'm all for a living creature's right to live, but that ends when they invade my space.
I live right next to lake, so snakes are also very common around my house. I let the non-venomous ones hang around, outside that is - because I don't need rodent problems either, but the copperheads and rattlers get to see the business end of a 12 gauge.
So, I guess I'm selective about the right to live thing...I wouldn't make a good Buddhist.

We've got cobras here - they're extremely poisonous, but they don't bother anybody much, as long as you don't step on them. They fall over themselves trying to get out of the way if you come anywhere near. Our cat used to spar with them, but he got a brain somewhere along the way, and got older as a result.

Are copperheads and rattlers more aggressive?

Rattlers aren't particularly aggressive, they'll try to stay away from humans, but copperheads are VERY aggressive. That's why I use a shotgun, if you don't get 'em with the first shot they'll come after you. I once hit one with a .22, but didn't kill it, and had to run because it was coming after me so fast. They'll also try to climb in the boat with you while your fishing. If you can't push them away with a paddle, and they get in, it's time for a swim. I've only jumped out of the boat once though. :)

I'm a city dude.Just dealin' with small spiders, bugs, roaches etc. drives me crazy!
But you guys got snakes, and other wild vermin.
Maybe i should go into the business of snake-catchin' probably can make some nice money!
(along with some nice shoes!) :)

GAS 'EM!

I think the idea of treading gently on our arthropod and arachnid friends is a good one. My house is filled with pet spiders.
However I don't like pests either.

For roaches- use:
boric acid around the perimeters of your space.

For ants- use:

Cypermethrin-(+/-)a-cyano-(3-phenoxyphenyl) methyl (+/-) cis,trans -3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2-
dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate

(It's a derivative of an extract of a flowering plant)

along trails and at entry points.

Leave the spiders alone. They're your friends. They eat the other bugs!

Sickest shit I've heard along these lines was some joker that shot a sea lion in the head
and the critter washed up along Huntington Beach, CA. just north of here. Caring folks tried to rescue the creature but it was too badly injured and drowned in its own blood.
Even the sea creatures have to put up with drive-by shootings...

When I was a kid, the beach at Huntington Beach was my most favorite place in the world.

The studio is no place for a Buddhist. I had a bee problem which got to be real interesting. They nested in the ceiling and became very agitated whenever I cranked the monitors up. I covered everything with a drop-cloth and set off an insecticide bomb I purchased from the hardware store. I haven't seen anything in two years.

Wasn't there a movie about that? 'Lambo, First Bug'. Oh wait, that was 'Rambo, First Blood', sorry.
