After the hurricane I started on this and finished it just now. At the time I remember being stunned by the extent of the disaster in New Orleans,. when I was 15, my first drumkit was in the garage and it got flooded. There was 6 inches of stinking wet mud in the kick, so in a small way I can empathise with what those people went through

I've been struggling with the bass so I'd be interested in how it sounds on your speakers

i like the tune but not the vocal effect thru-out the whole song...maybe just during the oooo-ooooooo's. i get why its there (water) but it sounds weird enough to be too much..my only nit.

otherwize. this tune is great in every way! and a great subject matter for a tune too.

I think it sounds pretty good....bass is pretty big, but I don't know how you could really tame it without detracting. It's not bad, but maybe if you tighten it up a small amount on the lowest end. I'd like to hear the main vocals drier....you could probably leave the FX one really low, but put a main one that's pretty dry. Drums sound great, and the guitars fit well.

Cool tune man. I really like it.

Wow. Sounds pretty cool. Very frantic. It ended abruptly, but other than that it sounded good to me. :)

One thing I noticed is that its very 'loud'. How did you get it pro-loud like that?

The drums are a bit to roomy.
Other than that it sounds like vintage (70's) metal.
The bass is fine at the beginning but loses definition.
I don't mind the vocal effect excpet for the gargle.

turtlishous - It's funny, I don't even notice the effects on the vocal any more. But you're right, it is a bit thick. I've gone back and cut it down a tad. Haven't taken it off completely cuz then you'd hear whatmy voice sounds like and we can't have that! :D Thanks for the comments, very helpful

Dogman - That's the probelm I've got with the bass - it's too big, pull it back and then no one cant hear it. Yeah I've backed off the vocal effect in places. It's actually a similar effect to one I've used on your vox on some of our collabs - unfortunately they don't suit mine quite as well heh :D I think it's a better balanced mix now though. so thanks for that Ed

Greg_L - Yeah the ending has me stumped on this one. I've tacked on a drum fade, coz you're right it's too abrubt, but I might need to do it 'properly'. I pushed the volume up with a multiband on the final mix, followed by a brickwall limiter to cacth the overs. Thanks for the listen Greg

rayc - There's 6 mics on the drums and I've tried various combinations of compression on particular mics, and no matter what I always get the sound of the room . It's more obvious on the opening fills and less so during the song, so I'm making do with the way is. Vintage metal? Cool. I'm not sure which is the garglt bit lol, but that reminds me I'm out of Listerine :D Thanks ray, appreciate the comments

Those drums are f'in tight man, specially that intro. This is a favorite of mine by you for sure. Vocals sound really nice. I personally don't mind the effects on them, might be a taste thing. Guitars are nice and tight, real aggressive which i love. I'll be listening to this one alot man, really dug this. Almost has an STP feel but what i hear in songs is never what anyone else does so i'm pretty sure i'm just missing a few cards in my deck. No real mix advice. I heard everything pretty clearly without struggling. Nice job man

take care

gary

gbav - Gary thanks for checking out the tune. Good to hear your thoughts and I'm glad you liked it. I don't own any STP albums, so any resemblance is purely coincidental :D Cheers man

dammit haven't been able to give a single rep to anyone in this thread...gotta 'spread it around'

Fucking great drumming, bro. Top fuckin' notch. I thought it was DFH. Please tell me your recording chain and describe your room, if you don't mind.

Great arrangement of the various sounds in this - maybe the term is production. Whatever, it's fabulous array of rhythms and instruments.
Nice verbs on this.....This reminds me of some 70's metal/rock......complex and spacious....Absolutely no nits

Supercreep - Wow thanks for the props. There's 6 mics on the kit, 2 condensors overhead 4 close dynamics, usual story. They run into a firepod. The room is quite small, maybe 12'x7', reasonably high ceiling. Timber floor, rug covering about 3/4 of it. Cheers man

ido1957 - Well yeah 70's rock is what I grew up with so that's certainly where the influences lie. Thanks for the kind words ido, I appreciate the comments

Its definitely a cool tune, me likey. I like the lead vox quite a bit. If anything, the whole tune sounds just a tad wet, its not as defined on individual parts as it could be. Very cool stuff, glad I got to hear it.

DavidK - Interesting comment on the wetness. The only reverb I've applied is a smidgen on the vocal. The rest is probably from the drum overheads - they seem to permeate everything. My Fender amp has a spring reverb and I never use it any more. Thanks for giving it a listen David

That's a bad as drum beat you got there. I may have to steal it :). I think the vocal effect works really well. The only thing I'm not a fan about is that I think you may have the guitars too wide. I definatly see the artistic approach, but to me they are a bit too wide.

Anyway, I really like the composition. It has a very industrial sound to me. Sounds like something KMFDM might do :).

Good job, man.

Cult_Status02 - Yeah I always tend to double track and pan the guitars wide as it leaves more room for the bass and everything else up the middle. And I have to admit I don't have a cluse who KMFDM are :o Thanks for the comments

Great piece of music and great drumming. I don't hear anything wrong with it myself.

Guess I'm getting old. I don't know any of these artists the others are talking about. So I consider this rather original sounding. :D

cmhansen - Yeah I'm getting old on it myself. Zeppelin & Purple are the biggest influences around here at the moment. Thanks for the nice comments man

Bulls..I've listened to this song over and over and the more I listen, the more amazing it sounds. Driven, hypnotic concert stuff.

The bass intro is short but sweet, then the bass and drums become one. Tight man tight.

I like the wah/phase effects on guitars.

You do sing !!! :D

The drums are...of course, Bulls' style...fricking mucho kicko asso.

I have no nits whatsoever....it is now in my music files. Kudos !!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention the cymbals. I really like how you use them in the tune. They give it some cool texture.
