Are these any good? Would $200 be too much for this unit?
Thanks,

Its basically the rack version of the JV-80.

You could do yourself a favor and find a JV1080 or 2080 instead. They are newer units and have the updated synth engine of the XP series synths.

Hey I have one!

The sounds in the JV 880 are what I would call, studio sounds. If your looking for something in the SYNTHY realm then this isnt for you. If your looking for your basic sound Tree of instriments then by all means, its a great lilttle addition to any home studio.

Here is the only bad thing Ive run into with the 880...
When you use all 4 outputs 2 main 2 aux you will lose the onboard effects.

okay..... a little twist on the question - I now have an alesis QSR6.1 as my main and only synth. If I come across a JV880 for $280, would I be crazy to pass it up if it were in perfect condition? I want other sounds than my QSR and I know I want a module as apposed to another synth. Is there a better unit I should look for for under $200?

Thanks,

RF

well

thats a nice price, and in mint condition to boot, Id say buy it. Im not aware of the sounds on the alesis but if they are more synthy, then the 880 will give you more of a library. Its a really nice unit, I still use it for my recordings all the time. Shes fully programable, you can edit the sounds and the edit interface wasnt that hard for me to learn. Also you can increase your sounds by way of wave table cards, yes they still make em! Some of the best bass sounds I ever heard are in the demo for this thing. remember when I first heard it , thats what sold me on the unit. ;)

I can't comment on the unit as I've never used it, but the price is not that great. Here's a link for the unit at $250:

(Sorry can't post link here. PM me for the site link)

If you search that site you'll find another, but that's listed at $300. I would say that even $250 isn't a good price. Check this out:

http://www.prepal.com/data/roland.htm

This shows the average used price for Roland gear (they have lists for all the major manufacturers). Anybody buying used gear should have a Prepal link. The unit averages at $197, and even though the price is going up if I was you I'd wait.

Hope this helps.

One more thing. If you're looking for other possibilities I would recommend the JV-1010 over the 880 any day of the week. Here's one for $250:

Prepal lists this at $316 so this is a pretty good deal.

Hope this helps.
