Asia...wow. That is a long freakin' way from Canada...or Scotland or pretty much wherever :). Cool...anyway, this tune:

Great clarity and the panning is really nice and helps maintain interest for something so sparse. Odd, because despite being sparse on the surface, there are at least a few layers of things happening that one can shift focus to and from while listening. I like the synthy bass part a lot.

I guess it does sound like something of a wee sketch, but a good one at that.

thanks mate...spent three months in Asia now ended up in Cali :)

got a couple of minimal ones coming up...glad the mix seems ok...mind you hard to guess what someone's trying to achieve with this kind of thing

Sounds okay I guess. There's not much there to comment on. I gotta say though, that was the longest 4:55 ever. Throw some changes or something in there. Just hit more buttons. :D

Cool composition. The midi sounds aren't good though. You're in SD right? UCSD used to have a very experimental and creative music dept. Dunno if it's the same now, but I can imagine this being performed in one of the concerts I saw there as a combination of recorded tracks (with higher quality samples) and live musicians. You should print out the score from the midi tracks and send it to them. They might perform it, maybe even with naked girls walking around the stage with antlers on their heads like the last concert I saw there.

damn i quite liked the sounds, drums took a while to get right...mind you i like naked girls with antlers on their heads more ;)

My wife works for UCSD...but I dont think any of my sketches will be winging their way anytime soon lol :)

I should add that the balance of the mix was very good. Sorry about the meanness re the midi sounds. I hate midi by nature. So, that filtered out, the drums are good dude.

edit: and don't hesitate to submit it for live performance. College arts depts are very promo-hungry. Just sign your manuscript "The Duke of Earl", or whatever you're the earl of, heh.:D They'll be all over it, naked girls, antlers, and all.

hey no worries i take it on the chin :)

my stuff at home is through outboard synths just not when Im on the go...but drums drive me nuts...i seem to get sucked into them for days...Im bidding on a 606 just now on evilbay

thanks a ton for listening/comments dude... and especially the mental picture of the wimmin ;)

No, seriously, about the composition aspect this is interesting rhythmically. The art-music world is always looking for composers lying outside the normal academic realm. Hell, Charles Ives was an insurance salesman.

yes but Ives was also a genius years ahead of his time, Im a bit thick and years behind mine ;) :D

Nice separation with the different synths, Keith.
Tune is very nicely arranged. The only thing that bugs me a little is the crispness in the drums, it's almost as if they're begging for mids. Try to get them to sound less like an old typewriter.......:D
Very good though.

Joey :)

hey cheers Joey, thanks for the comments....I get what your saying about the drums; pop, pop, tinkle, tinkle, pop, pop :)...they were meant to sound like that...like the 70s tiny pops..probably too much...dont think Id use the samples in anything again mind you as they could ruin a tune

hope you've been keeping busy and look forward to hearing your latest :D
