Last year I redid my "Down in a Hole" cover with some new equipment. Just wanted to get your feedback. I would consider myself a home recording 'novice.'

I want to record a couple more covers (Flood - Jars of Clay, Nutshell - Alice in Chains, Isle of Tornado - Megadeth, So Far Away - Staind, etc.) Flood I don't think I can do because I have no way of recording the stringed parts.

Anyway, here goes:

Equipment:
Compressor, PreAmp (low cost, but decent stuff)
POD for AMP work
Gibson Flying V with EMG 60/81
Yamaha Acoustic
Ibanez 5 String Bass
Cakewalk
Drums were done by a session drummer. I'm doing everything else.

Sounds real good man... always dug this song too.
Some thoughts... I'd drop a little high end off the acoustic in the intro, it's a little sharp now. When things pick up at 0:22, I'd like to hear more power on the drums, maybe double tracking or reverb, plus some more bass guitar. Vocals are excellent throughout. Same with the electric. Nice job man, sounded really good :D :D

Got it, thanks. I still have the master so I just have to mix it. When I tried double tracking the drums the volume was hard to control without uber compressing it. I don't think I have reverb on the drums and yes, the bass is kinda low.

Appreciate the feedback!

Sounds good man, sounds good! I was so excited to hear that you wanted to redo Flood by Jars of Clay.. what other music do you like? Christian music is what I love.

I listened on my work PC speakers, so I will only comment on a few things that seemed obvious to me. One being that the drums were really buried, they definitely need to be bought forward in the mix by boosting the volume by a few db's.
The vocals were a tad wonky here and there at the beginning but they warmed up nicely as the song progressed. I love the lead guitar tone around the 4:30 mark. A few little mixing issues to resolve and I think you have a nice piece of work here Jarbarian.

Thanx for sharing with us!
