I have various songs at IUMA and its mostly heavy rock, with a few lite rock songs as well.... I really need some honest reviews. I have remixed most of the stuff for CD , so the bass is a bit heavy on some of the MP3's there.....Check out the first song Shadows falling and let me know what ya think. I did everything including vocals for the first time in my life. Mainly a guitarist/songwriter... Thanx http://dreamstorm.iuma.com

This Won't Help...

I'm not getting an overly bass heavy mix...but I'm not monitoring under ideal circumstances either. Sounds pretty decent, actually. I do think the vocal is the weakest link, but I've a feeling you already knew that.

sorry???

:D

Pretty good sounds. I'd prefer the rhythm guitar panned left and right, though. The sound is pretty dry on the guitar, whereas the drums are very reverb-heavy somehow. The drum sounds are good but they could be more upfront. Well, except for the hihat, which is close enough. I don't dig that snare. Sounds too compressed. Sounds exactly like on Dream Theater's "Images and Words" album. The vocals could come nearer too and lose some of the reverb on them too. The song is a decent rocker. Just try to mix the stuff more upfront. Not too much, though. The surround on the solo guitar is pretty bad, so I wouldn't use that approach.

But aside from all that, welcome to the board and don't take me too seriously :D

Thank you for your input. Im not a vocalist, but hey Im givin it a shot. I am presently looking for a female vocalist to redo most of my songs.
I have been working on the seperation of the rhythm tracks as well. Im not happy with the dry sound they have either.
The drums sound like Dream theatre? I take that as a compliment. They are from a dr rhythm DR-670..... I have better solo tones like on Bipolar Mind and Somethings in the air and I want to figure out what I did-lol ...To many settings on DSP's and I dont always keep track of what I did.....

I was going to ask if that was a DR-770. I recognized that pattern. As far as mix goes, my standard answer; drums need to come up. Also bass. You may have to carve a little room for it out of the rhythm guitar with a EQ cut. Not a bad tune at all but the vocal is a little weak. You've already done the one thing that I would've suggested to help reinforce it and that's to double them.

It strange , but at another site I was told to bring down the bass and drums. Thats an older version on my site. Ive compressed the mix and boosted the level and dropped the mid bass on new version. I acually did carve the midbass out of the rhythm guitar tracks.... Im constantly remixing my stuff, cause Im never happy...I wonder when I can say its finished. That goes for about 15 songs total.....I dont want to do too much with vocals, cause Im having a female redo them for me.

finally someone else from Oregon...man i thought i was the only one......

i like everything about this song except vocals....they are tooo quiet...everything else sounds pretty good tho.....man who is doin the drums??...great ......this sorta (not much tho)..remind me of dream theater....mostly just song structure i think..and alot of off time accents .....ok wel.....i guess the keyboards do too....lol...but hey ..if could remind someone of drem theater...i would be pretty freakn happy......i cant comment on the lyrics mostly they were so quiet...but i am goin back to listen to more...

pretty cool so far...

jamal..(eastern oregon..you know the lame part)....lol:D

Not overly bassy on my listen. This is pretty cool, decent sounding drums. I would have liked the vocals to be clearer, but they were far from a hinderance to the music for me. Just need some more power behind them I think. There's an overall gritty distortion feel that's bothering me a bit, almost like the whole song is coming through a crappy amp or something, but I think this is just my taste. Good arrangement and guitar playing. Overall this is a nice effort, keep it up! :D

Another Oregonian huh.... I remixed the song and redid the solos and panned the rhythm guitars a bit. I used to like dream theatre years ago..... Some of my guitar solos sounded like keyboards , and that bothered me for some reason....Thanx for the Tips and critique. Im not a singer, but I try.....Just got a shure 57 , so that might help.
