Taking the slow road
I'm not planning to record on it, just do some editing.

Instead of shared ram boards, I decided to get one w/ no integrated video. I have one of those now and it sucks.

I went w/ a board that has about 5 pci slots and an 8x agp.

I could only afford a 64mb 4x agp vid, but it blows away my 8mb shared ram crap i'm typing on at the moment.

easily upgraded vid cards anyway.

256 ram, i figure ok for now since i'm not sharing it, but easily upgraded later.

recycling cdrom, floppy, hard drive, and i have a second hdd hanging around for the sound tracks.

400fsb, usb2, sempron 2400 (athalon xp), some 6 channel audio thing I don't know see how it goes and most likely get a pci card, or usb? not sure yet.

sure I'd like a p4 and a 1/2 gig ram and 256mb vid etc, but this fits on the cred card to the max w/ about a 2cents to spare.

anyone getting barebones systems lately?
