Just Installed 1010lt Mic Pre ?

I Just Purchased A 1010lt Saturday...installation And All Was A Breeze...it Seems To Work Well With My Sonor Software .. I Plan On Using Multi Inputs For Drum Tracks Probably 7 Mics...
Anyway The Built In Mic Pres Sound Great But Im A Little Confused On Setting The Levels Of The Mic Pres...i Left The Jumpers At The Default..hottest Level I Think...i Was Just Tweaking The Setup A Bit Kinda Figurin It Out Before Recording Anything Serious And My Mic Peaks Out When Playin The Drums?
I Know I Can Ajust The Jumper But To Do That I Have To Unplug The Card??the Input Level Slider Possibly Could Solve This By Turning It Down But That Just Kinda Cuts The Peaks Off Of My Recorded File And Really Doesent Seem To Sound Quite Right?? Whats The Best Solution To Get The Proper Level??
 
You can move the jumper with the card in the PC but, I would strongly recommend that you turn the PC off and ground/discharge yourself before poking your hands in there. The problem is only with a possibility of static discharge to the card or other parts of the computer. You could use a static wrist strap or, with one hand, touch the PC chassis (the metal part like the power supply cage) and make the adjustment with the other hand. :)

will unplugging the card to move jumpers, will i have to uninstall or reinstall any drivers , will xp see it as a new hardware device again?? and moving the jumper to the less hot setting will it be low enough to rec drums???or will i have to make it a line level input and use a preamp? right now its clippin like crazy ..
 
XP should have no idea that you pulled the card and try to reinstall the drivers... of course, this is assuming you turn off the PC before pulling the card....
 
Nothing else to do but move the jumpers. I wish they would have simply put a switch on the back of the card so you didn't have to hassle with pulling out the card.
 
i moved the jumpers to the lower mic setting and ajusted sliders etc.....
but ive come to the conclusion that i am not going to be able to use the cards pres for drums , the drums are just too loud???unless someone else has a better idea?????i guess ill use the xlrs on the card as line inputs and use an external mixer or preamp?
 
:confused: I've got to admit I've not used those two inputs for that pupose. I'm using outboard preamps. Have you tried turning down the input at your M-Audio control panel or in the recording application?

i tried to turn down the mic inputs in the control panel still too loud , its not like a regular pre apparently you cant turn the volume down all the way ..it just seems to tweak the level ..
 
You need to adjust the jumpers. Turn off the computer, ground yourself before taking out the soundcard. That will work. I use both ins for kick & snare
 
I had a similar problem.
1.Go into the m-audio contro panel
2.Click on the HARDWARE SETTINGS tab
3.Locate the VARIABLE SIGNAL LEVEL section
4.In that section, click on the SLIDERS button
5.In the same section, make sure that INPUTS and MONO are punched in.
6.Adjust the sliders to taste (all my faders are very close to beeing on the bottom)

Voila!
