I recently inherited an ancient (okay... early 60s, but to someone my age [15] that is seemingly prehistoric) Ampex 1/4" reel-to-reel. It's one of the high end consumer models (don't know the model number) unfortunately it doesn't quite work so i'm trying to reverse engineer (and hopefully fix) it without being electrocuted too many times. Does anyone know where i might have it professionaly repaired in the CT/NY area.
If not, does anyone know where i can order a belt for it from - its is bent out of shape and therefore falls off easily

Final question... is it worth running a tape out to this thing (will it sound cool?) or is it so old it will sound like crap?

Thanks!

Yo Macros of 4:

Call Full Compass and check with their repair department. Maybe you could trade it off for a new digital 16 track DAW too?

You can get Full Compass on the net and they have an 800 number.

Try going to the Tascam web site at www.tascam.com and find the authorized Tascam repair centers in your area. These centers are almost all simply private repair companies that just happen to work on Tascam products. The odds are they'll be able to take care of your recorder too.

Cheers,
Ron
