My C3 just arrived moments ago and I was impressed by how solidly built it seems to be, very good sign but I know the proof is in the ears. I comes in a very nice solid case with a hearty, well built shock mount. I hadn't read too much about these mics until a couple of customers (I own a music store and a rec. studio) started to ask if I could get them. I called up Alan who was very nice, available and fair, to see if I could become a dealer (I had at least 2 customers who would have bought c1's right away) he told me who to contact and when I did I was told that a music store in the next town just got the line and I was too close to them to get the line as well. Oh well. But these requests peaked my curiosity about the mics and I started reading up on them on the bulliten boards (haven't seen any reviews in the mags yet) and I figured, with these kind of first hand raves and those prices, how could I not check one out. So, I have a mixing session which unfortunately will go late tonight, but right after that I'm going to put this thing through some tests and I'll report back. Like I said, so far I'm impressed by the packaging and the solidity, always a good sign at any price. I'll let you know mho asap. Now the minutes start to slow to a snails pace.

I noticed that you only have two posts , so you are a new member.

I just want to know why you thought that homerecording.com/bbs/ wanted to know your thoughts on any mic's build.

Is the mic the best built youve ever had? If its not, why didnt you mention the other solidly built mics, you know, the ones that you have actually heard?

Why dont you tell us ,while you are at it, about your other gear that got rave reviews and is not irreplaceable in your studio, you know, the ones that you have actually used?

How did you find homerecording.com/bbs, by the way?

FWIW, the shockmount used on the sps are used in many other mics, and there have been reports of the mics falling out of the shock mount, including some of the SP mics. So whats your standard for well built?

whoa, Why the hostility brother? I just got turned on to this site by a customer and was reading it to find out more about the studio projects stuff, it was informative and (usually) friendly so I thought I'd just return the favor and post my thoughts on this particular mic (it is a mic bbs, Right?) I have no investment in the studio projects line, as I said I'm not able to carry the line in my store which, I thought would be a sign of unbiased opinion. Sure there are other well built mics out there and well built shockmounts etc. but I just got THIS mic in the mail today which is why I was referring to IT as opposed to any of the other thousands of products out there. I have purchased other inexpensive mics whose packaging and shockmounts were kind of weak so I was just pleasantly surprised at what I got for the money...so far. If this mic sounds like ass once I put it through the ringer I will absolutely post those results as well, I'm well aware that you can't judge a book by it's cover and I will let my ears be the judge. I'm relatively new to this whole BBS thang so if I've made some faux pas via my post please let me know what it is, I thought thats what people did here. I'm not looking to offend anyone and when I try other products or have other thoughts that might be of use to someone out there I'd like to post them but not if I'm going to rile people up, I didn't mean to and apologise if I did something wrong.

hey spectoar, i think the problem may have been that alan hyatt and and studio projects get alot of heat around here. most of what i have seen seems a little uncalled for BUT i haven't been on this bbs for all that long so i haven't seen EVERYTHING. but some people seem to think that alan's conduct is a bit questionable when it comes to his posts about mics, but he seems like a nice enough guy to me. so basically what i'm tryin to say is that we're all here to have a little fun and learn alot soooo, can't we all just get along :)

I found nothing wrong with your post, and I was waiting to hear what you think once you tried out the c-3. And I am impressed with your character for apologizing for something you didn't do, that takes real humility and obviously much more heart than old sourpuss Cyan has. I guess you are going to find jerks wherever you go, so don't let him scare ya off. Most people here are very nice and helpful. Just ignore the ones that are not.

Matt

Thanks Mikey & Mgiles for the info and support, I will post my thoughts as soon as I get to try it ( new toys always make for a fun day)

Welcome Spectoar!
I am also new to this board as of a few weeks ago.

I have already emailed the sysop about my findings in the first two weeks. Basically, suggesting people "share their opinions, not opinions of someone else's opinion(s)."

In the last week I have posted this site on guitar.com, Carvin's BBS, and well as, Digievent.com for anyone starving for recording/mic info like me. Hopefully, they do not get interigated like yourself.

i.e. http://www.carvin.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000489.html

Get what you can from this board and develop your own opinion while maintaining perspective and consideration for your neighbor.

Please share your findings with STUDIO PROJECTS, AT, AKG, SHURE, NEUMANN or whatever.

Again, welcome.
See you here!

when someone registers on to a bbs to basically rave about a product,

Then I suspect that they are in someway trying to change opinion about that product or create desire for the product, whether that desire is deserved or not.

by the way,

my marshall v67g was built like a tank and had the same solid shockmount as the Sp,s

Now imagine me becoming a new member of a board just to tell the members that.

I think its a bitch that someone post in this forum then is attacked for no damm good reason. If you have paranoid thoughts about new people posting then maybe you shouldn't bother to respond.I for one like to hear everyones opinions about a product not just whoever meets with your approval.Maybe you need to get a life.

Welcome spectoar. If I knew that some people were such idiots here I might not have reccomended the site.Funny how some people have to piss on everyones parade.

CyanJaguar,
this bbs is here so that people CAN post their opinions about products and recording in general. i don't see any problem with what spectoar used as his first post. if i got a shiny new mic the morning i found a great bbs, that's probably what my first post would be about also. besides that, i don't think that small posts like his would be enough to change the opinion of the entire bbs(the only person here with that kind of power is harvey). :)

Cyanjaguar,
I probably shouldn't even respond but... Yeah, if you just got your v67 and were impressed by ANY aspect of it, I'd be interested to know, isn't that the point of this whole bbs? Certainly the point of it can't just be to give people a place to vent their aggressions. Should we only post things that YOU in particular want to hear about. I've been trying to think about what of what I've written might have been out of line and my conclusion (with the help of other posters) is that the problem lies with you, not me so...no real need for us to communicate. If you see a post by me just assume it's not something that'll interest you and I'll do the same. Thanks, take care.

I think its called spam

by the way,

how do you like the sound of your new c3. For some strange reason, I have little doubt that you will say its the best mic you've ever used or something like that.

Cyanjaq,

I always thought this forum was exactly the place for musicians to express their opinions. The fact someone has one or two -- or 20 posts has nothing to do with their expertise or experience in the studio and credibility to give their "review." Who gives a crap you've posted more than a 1,000 times here? That only means you're experienced on your computer. I think my first post was an excited rave about a JoeMeek preamp I had just bought. Thank God I didn't get your welcome wagon.

As for the Studio Projects, I recently got a C1, love it (but it's the only condenser I've ever had), but am pissed that now the C1 comes with a bass roll-off and something else that I can't remember.

Spectoar -- welcome. This won't be the last time you're under suspicion and policing by those who have many posts. I'm sure you're going to love your new mike.

Cyan... c'mon.. chill a bit.. I seriously doubt Alan is hiring spam-agents. No need to bring out the flamethrower.

hugz and kisses to all :D

alright meshuggah,

I'm off the guy's case. I'm chilling now.

If you guys think this is bad treatment, you should see what R.A.P did to that idiotic sweetwater sales guy spamming all over the place.

And, if you are shopping from sweetwater, you are probably paying too much. Way too much. Their special discount is everybody elses normal everyday price.

Gentlemen,

Please limit your posts here to commenting on microphones, related equipment and sounds. Negative comments on another participant's character or personality are unwelcome, whether as initial comments or as responses to those comments.

Many thanks,

Mark H.

I get it now. Cyjaguar thinks I am some kind of plant put her by SP! I'm not but this all makes more sense now. Other mics I have thoughts on (cyjaguar feel free to ignore). I love my sm7, use it alot on kick, smooth on some vox but not all, love it on horns. Don't really like the marshall mxl2001, nice on some things, kind of like it on piano, too brittle for most vox I find (for my taste, others might like that crispness), ecm 8000's I like (for the money especially) drum overheads, very nice, had been borrowing a pair and liked 'em enough to buy my own, looking forward to trying them on piano, 57's & 58's nothing to really say, they're great for many things. Rhode nt2, I like this mike on vox, clear and silky, not brittle on the highs but there is something up there and I haven't been able to put my finger on it, maybe a dullness or just my overactive imagination, but a good solid mic. Neumans, don't have 'em, have used 'em, very much want 'em. Just some thoughts.

i just ordered my ecm8000s and can't wait to try them(thanks harvey).

hmmm...

You know... It's NO big secret that new posters are now arriving nearly daily to report or comment something about a Studio Projects mic ever since Alan arrived.

Could these be Alan's hired hands? YES! Is it possible? YES!

Again, this is NO big secret.

It is ALSO NO big secret that a good 85% of the recording world has NOT discovered the Internet as of yet. Too be frank, they're too damn busy actually recording and using the gear we talk about to get caught-up in all this bullshit.

With THAT in mind, it's VERY possible that the engineer of your MOST favorite album is posting here for the very first time and you don't even know it!

With those big secrets in mind, though I would keep in the back of my mind the possiblity of the post being of a hired hand, I WOULDN'T jump down someone's throat and accuse them of being apart of SP sabbatoge on their first post or even judge someone on their first 10-20 posts! I'd also realize people will form their own opinions, just as I do myself.

I suppose it all simply comes down to social skills... Who knows how many times I've heard a "big fish" story from someone I met face-to-face. I accept the possibility, but take it with a grain of salt if I have reason (in this case, I notice tons of threads on SP mics since Alan arrived). Of course, every once in awhile, I might find-out it really is 100% true. Or more often, I'll find-out it was just a "big fish" story. Do I call them on it? Nah. For the most part, it's not of any type of deal or simply doesn't matter at all to be worth it. I just know to be even more skeptical with the next story (as I have reason; I've find-out their previous story is not true). You start to realize most people come-up with those "big fish" stories to get attention or to feel good about themselves. If that's what it takes for them, so be it! Most of the time though, I'll NEVER know what REALLY happened.

Now I realize we WOULD say something and take action if we were ever to some how find-out these are all hired hands (which then and ONLY then would constitute as SPAM), but otherwise, nothing really needs to be said.

Wow, kinda feel like I stepped in the middle of something here. I'm starting to get a little nervous that I might have gotten duped into buying this mic, I just assumed all of the posts I read were from real people, obviously the ones from alan I took w/ a big grain of salt but the others I must admit were swallowed with just a tiny grain of salt. The only other bbs I've been a part of is the vsplanet (I use a vs2480 and love it by the way). I guess I should have waited for the magazine reviews (which are also taken with a bit of salt) I guess I never really thought about a company doing that, the vs planet doesn't seem to have that problem or perhaps I'm just very naive. Maybe I should've just gone for that ksm44, it's virtues are well documented by mags and friends, oh well, live and learn.
