Okay, I'm new to this site, so I apologize if my questions are answered elsewhere. I tried to find answers but didn't find any.

Proceeding on to my problem...
I got a Boss BR-800 tonight for Christmas. I've been messing with it for 3 hours now, and I've gotten nowhere.
Before I go on with my list of things I need help with, I need to provide some background.

I am totally new to home recording like this. Before I used a standard headset mic, Audacity, and the Stereo Mix feature to cover karaoke songs from Youtube, Karaoke sites, and CD's I play. That's how I'd record before. I'd hear my voice and the music at the same time and it would record all at once.

I'm trying to achieve that with my new Boss BR-800 and I'm totally lost. I can't even get my mic to work, where I can hear it through my headphones. Does anyone have any idea how I can record like I used to? I know you can record on the Boss BR-800 so I'm not worried about recording with audacity. I just want to generally be able to do the same thing I used to. Please help me soon so I can enjoy this present. Anything would help.

Additional Info:
Mixer - Boss BR-800
Mic - MXL 440
Headphones - Audio Technica ATH-M10 Professional Monitor Headphones
I have my mic plugged into Input 1
I also have Cakewalk Sonar LE

Try and connect the mic to input4 instead of input1 on your BR-800.
Your MX440 is a condenser microphone. All condenser mics need electric power to work and this is called "phantom power" in the audio-world :)
..I don't have a BR-800 myself, but I googled it and saw that input4 (on the back) has phantom power.

You may have to switch the phantom power on somehow though, but how to do that shouldn't be too hard to find in the manual. :)

Write again if your problems remain

There's a section in these forums for Roland/Boss equipment.
Before proceeding further, read the manual that came with it - you can find an online version if you need it, Boss doesn't hide them!
