Just got a CAD E-200, can someone explain? Help

So I have never owned a decent mic, my last one sucked so very bad, the Samson USN condenser mic. Anyways this E-200 has 3 modes, omni cardoid and figure eight. The manual does not explain what each does, could someone fill me in please?

My main use is mic'ing guitar amps, acoustic guitars, and acoustic guitars with vocals.

Omni picks up sound equally from all directions.

Cardioid rejects sound from 180° off axis.

Figure-8 rejects sound from 90° off axis.
