is it better to have the low cut on i know it takes out the lo freqs so that means no bass in the vocals correct? and is it good to use the -10db option or it doesnt really matter?
when I record vocals with mine, i will use the low cut. With everything else, I usually dont and I just EQ out what I dont want. I almost always use the -10db pad.
I think you will probably want to use the low cut to keep low end rumble out of your recordings. If I remember right your low cut is down like at 80 htz.
I kind of doubt you can even come close to singing that low.
I would use it.
I wouldn't use the -10dB pad unless you find yourself overloading the preamp. If you find that you have the preamp's gain all the way down and your level is still too hot, then engage the pad.
Some pads may actually affect the sound to a minor degree. But, that aside, if you lower the ouput of the mic when you don't need to, you will have to make that gain up at the preamp. It is poor gain staging technique and may result in more noise in your recorded signal.
It's not so much that the pad is affecting the sound. If you are not overloading the mic and you engage the -10dB pad, you now will need an extra 10dB of gain at the pre. Cheaper preamps, and even expensive ones, can get noisy when providing a lot of gain.
