Lost

Just listened to Lost on your myspace page its good but needs some eq'ing. You need to eq the guitars better, they are way too harsh, easy on the treble and middle. The vocals sound good though. What sound card and DAW did you use? Good song.

I agree!!!!.....Im using an M-Audio Fast track usb. When i recorded it i was listening to the play back on my Peavy Pr-15/ Peavy-10 inch speakers and it sounded great!!!!......................but then i listen to it on my laptop and im like wtf!!! it sounded like crap. My room isnt treated or anything so im thinking maybe that has alot to do with it? not sure tho.

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!

Those Peavey speakers are PA speakers, right? I was listening to a mix just the other day at the practice space for my band and noticed how bass heavy those speakers were. That would explain the harsh guitars you might not have been able to hear. You need more accurate monitors.

yeah, PA speakers aren't really going to treat you so well in the monitoring department. in fact, this song has some of the same sound characteristics that my songs used to have when I monitored with PA speakers.

I'll agree that the vocals sound good, but the guitars are probably going to need a little more work smoothing them into the mix. I'm still a bit new to this myself though, so I sadly haven't got much in the way of input other than trying to EQ them a little bit. Good song though.

Song's pretty good Keith, but the mix still needs some work.
Drums sound kind of muffled and you have some timing issues especially with the kick. Bass is hardly audible, I suspect its fighting with the low end of the guitars. Guitars have lots of highs and lows but lack mids, IMHO. Just remember, it's different when you're recording to playing live. When I record my guitars, I always have the mid all the way up on my amp. Voice sound petty good and the harmonies fit in well. Try to get yourself a pair of monitors, there are plenty of good deals around, and if you have doubts about your room start off mixing at a very low volume. Hope this helps.
