just FAT, not distorted

ok, I got that kate moss anorexia body ;) japan jackson strat (w/ floyd rose), a non-fender tele and an epiphone les paul.
I had to find out that - using the amp's same slightest crunch setting - the jackson strat gives you a bit of distortion, the tele none. that's fine so far - different guitars, different sounds.
but then I switch to 'quite overdriven'. now what amazes me is that the tele sounds maybe less distorted but much more powerful, fat... with a single-coil! it really kicks ass. the epiphone sounds fatter than the strat too - but here I guess it's mainly the hotter output.

so my question is: are the strat's pick-ups just crap or is it all about the body (only good for high-gain and ultra-clean)? do thin necks and floyd-rose really cut of that much power?

and don't say "japan jackson sucks anyway", cause the tele was a whole lot cheaper.

Single coil pickups are low-output. A humbucker will have a lot more output power, thus delivering a beefier sound. The pickups on a Telecaster are pretty powerful in the high end and make it sound bigger than a Strat in most cases.

I know this is all true in the real Fender versions which I own. I guess it's the same for the copies.
