Is it possible to make your own accompaniement music by blocking out the original voice, and just use the background music? Please tell me how and is it legal. No I am not using it to sell, just for my own personal use and performances.
Thank you, hope you can help.

A kareoke (sp) care-ee-o-key
machine does this.
They're available all over the place, in many different flavours.
You could do a search to find out where to buy one and how much.

I know no way to do this myself, but am interested in the same information. If it's just for practicing (not to leave the studio) can this be done? Thanks singergrl, I hope someone can help with this one.

Yes, there are modules that can take the vocals out of music... Yet, along with it some of the instrument frequencies are taken also..Sometimes.

There are usually disclaimers saying that a recorded work cannot be publicly broadcasted, so that might kill your chances of using the piece for performance...

I think you should find some Karaoke Cd's... Much easier, and you can play/broadcast them anywhere.

Good Luck!

You won't run into any liscencing issues if your just practicing to it....

Once again, it's probably easier to find the karaoke versions on Ebay, than buying one of those vocal removal modules...

However, if you are interested in the module, Ads for them are always found in the back of "Recording" magazine..

Yeah thanks for the tips people. I guess I will have to continue to buy accompaniment music. Although I have used original tracks that I have purchased where they have taken the voice out. I use those for performances. That was my main goal here.
I didn't realize karoke machines could do that. I will check out that website...thanks

Well, it's one of them things, that would be hard to get caught doing it, and if you did get caught you most likely wouldn't have the song owners place a charge against you, unless your making Moocho Dollars.

Nevertheless, it is illegal.

It's not the machines that do it, It's that you buy the music that is made without the vocals in the first place... Those cd's i'm talking about..

Thats basically the cd's I'm talking about......accompaniment or karaoke

You could also try to search out MIDI's of the songs you want on the net. Problem there is, you need a better MIDI setup to mix them down even halfway well, and it seems they're getting chased off the net for copyright violations.

There is the old technique of removing everything from the center (which most vocals are). It's like the ads you used to see in the back of the music magazines for that silly machine.

I don't remember the specifics of the technique, but I've seen Winamp plugins that do it. The results usually suck though. You're better off with Karaoke audio if you can find it for the stuff you're looking to do.

Thanks guys, and thanks again singergrl for posting this question.
I had no idea about the karaoke stuff, I'm gonna look into it :D

I think there's also a vocal-removing plugin. Have anyone heard about it or used it?

Can I echo the suggestion about midi files? There are still millions there - try a midi search engine like the one at vanbasco.com.

It's really not difficult to adapt midis for singing to - use a sequencer, or a dedicated karaoke player like vanbasco's (above) to mute tracks, transpose etc. And you can convert them to Wav files to burn on a cd by recording them in real time using any old sound recorder - set your recording options to "mixed output" to record directly off your soundcard.

If the midi synthesizer that comes with your soundcard is a bit ropey, then you could use direct music for playback - I believe Winamp has a directX plug-in, and there are other good softsynths available, either free or going for a song (!)

Good singing

That's the one I was talkin' about!

Queque:
Have you used it?

Me too (kinda). I've used similar ones - you can expect results that sound like a worn out cassette tape if you're lucky. Swirly cymbols and the whole 9.

It doesn't work for shit, as far as I can tell. I've had no luck with it.

Btw, if you have Waves C4, I can explain a very nice way of removing vocals.
