well first ill list some of the things in the box:

Application Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor - 40GB
File Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar - 250GB
Memory: 1GB Corsair DDR2 667
Motherboard: ASUS P5ND2-SLI
Video Card: ASUS EN6200TC
Processor: Intel Prescott 3.2GHz
Operating System: Windows XP Professional

if you need to know anymore info just ask and ill be happy to answer.

anyways, it seems like this computer could be faster .. and just better.

i use sony vegas and certain things really bog the system down. Like if i apply a plug-in to only one track .. that track gets off time with everything else. things like that. i guess my question is.. what can i update or upgrade for better performance??

Have you done any of the tweaks recommended at musicxp.net ?

have you checked the CPU performance monitor? i dunno if Vegas has anything like that, but it can tell you how much CPU you're using. i'm using a 2.6ghz AMD Athlon FX proc and i have projects with over 20 tracks with plenty of plugins in Reaper and it doesn't even break a sweat.

As far as I know Vegas doesnt have plugin delay compensation. Are you doing video work? What audio interface are you using?

You went and used that NForce4 board after I told you we had problems with them in testing in an earlier thread. Great for games, not so much with pro audio.

yeah if Vegas has no plugin delay compensation, that's gonna screw things up a bit. i went thru that with Cubase LE, it was a bitch. :(

i think my mobo is NForce4
what type of problems did you have with it H2H? ill look for that thread you're talking about...i haven't had any real trouble with my board though, its an ABIT KN8 SLI.

You have to consider we test boards with EVERYTHING and if they dont work with some things then it fails. There were several audio devices that wont work on it.

ahh that sucks. i guess i'm lucky that it works with my rig, hehe. :o

so i see you favor the Core2 Duo processors to the AMD? ahh dammit i really shouldnt be talking about upgrading already...i have no more money!

wow computers seem to get quick resposes on here.. whil ei was on this cool site doign the things i now i have many people to respond to. Thanks for the link i didnt know of that, but now i did most of the changes.

yeah those muscxp tweaks are pretty cool. my computer is super boring now as far as looks, but the audio preformance is quite lovely. :D

i occasionally do some video work and the same goes for videos .. when i apply a video effect the video gets very choppy. Im using a TASCAM FW-1804 interface.

lol im not even sure what the NForce4 is but lol i think it works with the tascam..

anyways while we are on the computer topic. Ive also noticed that when i play numerous videos in winamp or windows media player. lets setup a senario, ok ive opened 10 videos in winamp, now the first one plays all the way through and then when its time to play the next video if stops for like10-30 seconds before it plays the next video .. sometimes i even have to hit the play button numerous times to get it to go. any ideas on this .. my video card drivers are up to dat.. at least as far as i know.

yeha i kept some of the things like the apperence. i couldnt deal with that.. im on my computer pretty much all day and it gets used for internet/audio/video/image things, so i left that one alone ;)

Generally the ASIO drivers will work best with the lowest latency, but it thats causing you problems, try the Windows Classic driver setting and see what happens. You wont hurt it trying it out.

Turn off system restore and check that you have the FW Hotfix, CPU hotfix, and Memory leak hotfix installed. I cant remember the service numbers, but you can search MS website and find them.

+1 on that. ASIO didn't work well for me with Vegas (I'm using version 5) but the Windows Classic Wave Driver is as smooth as silk.

sorry im a total pain in the ass here but im not really sure what those hotfixes are or where to find them.. microsoft?

yeha i turned the latency down to 32 now and the AISO doesnt work but the wave driver works well. thanks guys
