Just being lazy!!!

I currently have a 2 soundcard setup. I have an Aardvark DP2496 for recording, and a Soundblaster for all other stuff. I am currently switching the cables to my monitors depending on which card I'm using at the time. I don't especially like crawling behind my monitors every time I switch functions. Do you guys have any good suggestions? Would a splitter work okay? I even thought of getting a cheap Behringer mixer using the stereo ins for my soundcards and the main outs to my monitors. I know there's a better way. Or you can say, "Get off your lazy butt and just do the switch!"

I have run my onboard audio to my home receiver and my Lynx card to my monitors, therefore no switching is neccesary. Some cards will allow you to use as a system card as well, I dont know if the Aardvark is capable though.

I use a cheapie Radio Shack switch box that's really meant for switching sets of speakers rather than source.

If you were'nt such a tight wad, you'ld just buy a second set of monitors!

Unfortunately, my receiver's out in the living room where I watch movies in 5.1 digital surround sound But will one of these work fine? Overkill?

What signals are you trying to splt? Line level or speaker level. If it's line level signals (before it gets to a power amp) then that mixer will work. If it's speaker level signals (after the power amp), then you'll need something like this...

Just hook it up backwards.

If you are using powered monitors, then the mixer is the way to go. You can split the signals with a simple 'Y' adapter although sometimes funky things happen to the signal in the process.

Thanks for the response. Yes I do have powered monitors (Studiophile SP-5B), and I have a Y-splitter from my soundblaster to going to the monitors. My Aardvark goes directly into the monitors (at separate time, of course).

Okay, so I'll probably put the soundblaster in the 2, 3 stereo channels, and put the Aardvark in the 4, 5 stereo channels, and the main outs going into the monitors. I know the pre's aren't the greatest on the Behringer units, but it's just to monitor. I'll definitely be recording directly through my Aardvark pre's. But would the sound quality noticeably diminish putting this in the signal chain? Thanks again.
