I could use some recommendations, guys. I know it's a very vague question that's been asked a million times before, so I'll narrow it down.
I'm doing some very, very rudimentary recording. I'm looking for a low-fi sound, so quality is only semi-important (which I'm hoping is good news when it comes to spending).
Now start laughing.. this is what I WAS using:
- an old Fostex X26 to input a cheap dynamic mic (more for the 1/2 inch input and audio cable outputs that convert to a 1/8 inch to get into the comp more than anything.. the fostex has a kinda high and low equalizer that came in handy enough to adjusting levels too)
- into a G4 Mac laptop using a freeware program called Audacity (heard of it?)
Believe it or not, I dug the sound I was getting. The bad news is my frickin' wife just gave away my Fostex and mic to her cousin to "borrow"
So it looks like i'm investing... I just need a decent mic to get into my comp and maybe a mixer on the way in. no?
