i do love smilies...
my brother has is about to release his first cd, and i was talking to him about how he's planning on getting enough gigs.

he told me him and three fellow songwriting friends (who all live in seperate cities) are acting as a mini 'record company' - just for the four of them. they're helping each other get gigs at venues that the others may not otherwise know about, acting as supporting acts for each others gigs, and generally helping each other out. it especially works because they're all solo artists- no bands.

sounds clever - no contract or official agreement, nothing financial involved, and i suppose you get as much as you take out of it.

i've only put this up because i don't think i noticed anything like this been posted. i might be wrong. i don't really mind :p

Sounds like he has a good thing going.

Always pays to have friends! :)

Sounds like it would work, I've been doing something similar for a few years now but it has been more along the lines of studio work. I have friends who have compatable styles of playing, we all do session gigs whenever we can and if someone needs another musician we call on and recomend one another, it works out pretty good for all of us. I don't see why the same idea couldnt apply to gigging, especially for solo acts. It's good to know there are other musicians out there who are trying to promote each other rather than compete, I applaud your friends.

To be honest, I can't imagine its a novel idea. There's a reason the phrase "It's not what you know, its who you know," exists.

Let us know if he has good results. I'd certainly try it.
