I'm Useing a M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Mxl V67, Acid Pro, And Sonar "Calkewalk" And A Shitty Computer.....First i was wondering if some could help me figure out why my fast track pro isn't working right.....When i install the drivers it halfway isnstalls the drivers then show my fairewall asking if i wanna finish installing it if i finish it all the play back and vocal recoring skips really bad, If i say cancel and dont finish it works good but has some clipping and popping noise...

And number 2 was this is a track im working on "Severd" and i was wondering if i could get a little advie on clearing up my vocals so they sound more studio qualiy....Thanx

How bad is the computer? I've seen playback get choppy if the computer is being worked too hard. Even on good computers that just have too much going on.

its not really that bad iit runs pretty good but its choppy even if acid is the only thing open....

turn off the firewall during the driver install. i've never heard of this.

make sure your computer is clean of unused drivers, unused software, spyware, virus's etc. check and fix any hardware conflicts. check your cpu useage and if it's abnormally high, find the problem and fix it. set your interface's buffer to an appropriate size. find out what other people set the buffer size to so you will know what to expect.

if the computer is a piece of crap and runs like a piece of crap you can't expect it to be any better when taxing it with audio recording. get it running good first. if you aren't already using a 7200 rpm hard drive, you should bet one or even better, two.

well see thats not such a big problem...cuz i can record with it half way installed i just get a few clips evey now and then...the main thing i really wanted was tips on makeing my vocals sond more crisp and clear....

for the clicking and popping try turning off any background programs you may have running in the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen next to the clock. turn off aim and any other messaging software, disconnect from the internet, etc.
also try searching on google for topics like "optimizing windows xp for audio" and follow the advice there. if your computer is really shitty, it might be the limiting factor as has been pointed out. make sure you defragment your hard drive regularly too-- if you download stuff a lot that can mess up audio too.
