Ok, so in the future, I would like to turn my future abode iin the basement into a small recording studio. I'm just wondering what are the basic things I would need to record onto a computer, and then do all of the mixing and editing on the computer.

A decent sound card with good A/D D/A converters, a decent set of monitor speakers so you can accuratly hear what you're doing, a nice set of headphones, a decent microphone and preamplifier assumming you're recording acoustic sounds (if you're recording synth stuff you can eliminate the mic and preamp) and recording software to record and edit with.

And a lot of patience so you can read about everything and experiment with everything.

And money. Not loads and loads, but more than you'd spend on, say, a car .....
