This might be a stupid question, but I don't know so I ask

I borrowed a Juno - D from a friend to try out. When I hook up the midi in/midi out to my EMU 0404, there is no sound of the synthesiser. I can upload a vsti and then it functions as a keyborad.

Do I have to use the output audio ports from the Juno into the EMU 0404 audio ports istead of the midi ?

midi contains no audio so ...... yeah.

I see this a lot actually ...... but MIDI is simply computer data to use for say, one keyboard controlling another for example. You can use MIDI for a lot of other things too but sound is not one of them.
There is no sound coming out of the MIDI jacks on anything so you'll need to use the regular outputs of that keyboard into your interface.
:)

Thanks for the clarification.

So the sounds in the synthesiser is only an audio signal

right. I'm not a keyboard player but I'm gonna assume that it has a pair of 1/4" jacks labeled Left and Right. Those would be the audio.
In fact, I'm not totally sure what the MIDI would be for in an interface. I suppose to easily connect things together that use the MIDI protocol. But regardless ..... to get audio you don't use the MIDI.

MIDI can also be used for sequencing on a computer or other MIDI sequencer, right?
