This is gonna be my bands first single off our upcoming album. I would love some feedback on the mix.

It sounds live rather than recorded an mixed.
The lead guitar is too loud, the drums don't sound like the parts are from the same room.
The lead actually sounds a little off - a little left field yes, but a little off in the way John Quine could get away with in the Voidoids in an ironic iconic sort of way.
I like the song but it needs to be mixed properly & then mastered properly.

I see what you mean by that with the lead. I corrected it by giving it some automation throughout the song. I think part of the reason that the drums sound different is I am sending the Close mics to a plate reverb and all of the mics to a convulsion reverb. I guess I will have to experiment to get that sounding more natural. Are their any other issues that need correcting?

If it were me I'd get rid of the verb on the drums.

The tempo and timing get a little sloppy in spots.

Vocals have some pitchiness here and there. Vocal level tends to be inconsistent - gets covered in spots and there's a loud shout here and there.

Personal taste thing - but the lead-ish guitar that plays during the verses just doesn't seem right. I'd either go for a clean tone or a real distorted tone. That "kind of in between" thing isn't working to my ear. Again, just my opinion.

I agree with both of you on the drum reverb. I dropped the room verb and just left a plate on the snare and toms. Its a little more subtle and reminds me of a live show. The lead part was recorded direct and I'm having a lot of trouble getting it right. I might just have the guitarist track that again. The vocal levels are definitely an issue, I used waves vocal rider and compression. I suppose that could use a better take too. The hook of the song is supposed to be a loud shout though.

Havn't posted in this thread in a bit but I think this makes more sense than starting a new thread. Here is an updated mix with new vocals and lead guitar. Give it a listen :D.
